Elkin, NC (09.06.2008) - The Carolina Clash Super Late Model series would roll into the ASA Sanctioned Friendship Motor Speedway this week for "The Big Show" as we would have some great weather in store for what would be a fantastic showing of races yet again.
For the fifteenth time this 2008 season, Friendship
Motor Speedway showed that this was the place to be to enjoy some of the best dirt track racing action in all feature events as fans, drivers, and crews come from miles around just to be at the 4/10th mile bullring in the great town of Elkin, North Carolina.
This week featured touring week number three of the Chase to the the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series Cup Championship along with three of our regular divisions which are known as the GM Direct Automotive Crate Late Models, Basic Finance Super Streets, and the Southeastern Cars & Parts U-Car division.
In the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series $5000.00 to win event, Dan Breuer out of Troutman, North Carolina would set quick time in pole qualifying to lock him into the feature along side veteran Ed Gibbons of Manning, South Carolina. Breuer would lead early in the run before having mechanical diffculties and taking it in for the night. Ed Gibbons would fall back as the man with the plan Ray Tucker would once again make a run for the lead looking for to get the monkey off his back after a couple of misfortunes in the last couple super late model events at Friendship. G.R. Smith would look to have one of the best cars also has he would look to find a opening and make his move on Tucker. As Tucker would continue to hold off G.R. Smith there would be a different Smith making his move and that would be none other than Jeff Smith coming to third after Noel Tucker and Championship contender Ricky Weeks would have troubles early on. Greensboro's own Ray Tucker would hold on after some lap traffic contact to make his way to the checkers to win the biggest show since going back to dirt at Friendship Motor Speedway and his second win of the year. He would be followed by a strong G.R. Smith in second, Jeff Smith in third, Ed Gibbons staying in the top five with fourth and rounding out the top five would be none other than the new Carolina Clash points leader Dennis "Rambo" Franklin. In the GM Direct Automotive Crate Late Model event, Chris Cheek would set quick time to start along side seven time feature event winner Noel Tucker. Chris Cheek would get the lead early over Tucker. Keith Holder would look very strong in third as he would look to make a move on Tucker. Kent Peckham would ride in fourth as Matt Long and points leader Tony Hicks would battle for fifth. Tucker just wouldn't be able to get it done this time as Chris Cheek would pick up some very valuable points as he would roll into the Neighbors Stores/100.9 WIFM Victory Lane and picking up that elusive first win he has been chasing all year. Noel Tucker would hold off Keith Holder for second. Kent Peckham would come home fourth with Matt Long rounding out the top five. In the Basic Finance Super Street event, Andy Mathis would kick things off along side Jeff Parsons on the front row after both having great runs in time trials. Andy Mathis coming into the event just two points out of the points lead would have something to prove to show he should be on top of the standings. He would do just that by leading from start to finish claiming his fourth win of the year. Jeff Parsons would fall back as Jimmy Watson would come this week with a different motor showing his strenth by finishing second. George Anen would come home in third with David Capps having a good run in fourth. Former points leader Daniel Moss would have a disapointing night as he would round out the top five. These next couple weeks look to be very exciting as we wind down the points season championship. In the Southeastern Cars & Parts U-Car feature event, Barry Wilson would look to have his machine rolling better and better every week as he would lead early with a fast ride. With some impressive three wide racing going on, Ben Walker would show just how strong he is after starting in the rear and working his way all the way up to battle Wilson for the win. Ben Walker would have one lap to get the job done and he would make it happen to score his fourth win out of only six races he has run this year. Barry Wilson would come home a close second with the championship contenders Tyler Sidden and Matthew Barker would round out the top four. Congrats to this weeks feature winners and thanks to all the dirt racing fans, drivers, and crewmen for your support as we head into the sixteenth event of the 2008 racing season on September 13th. Coming up for our next event will be all four of our regular divisions known as the GM Direct Automotive Crate Late Models, Basic Finance Super Street, Coffee House Four Cylinders, and the Southeastern Cars & Parts U-Car division. These next couple weeks should be pretty exciting with only two events left to decide the 2008 season champions as we continue to have two and three way battles in every division for that crown. Come on out as we would love to have you as part of our dirt racing family.
