(04.11.2009) Elkin, NC - Friendship Motor Speedway, a American Speed Associaiton sanctioned track, was back at it for week two of the 2009 racing season with exciting racing in all divisions.
A special Easter weekend at Friendship was celebrated with a special Easter Egg give away for all the kids. With
yet another full field of Pro Late Models on hand, this week was shaping up early to be just as good or better than the opening event last week.
This week featured all five of our regular divisions which are known as the GM Direct Automotive Pro Late Models, Southeastern Cars & Parts Limited Sportsman, Coffee House/Waffle Shop Four
Cylinders, JC Racing & Fabrication Renegade V-8, and the Unsponsored U-Car division.
In the GM Direct Automotive Pro Late Model event, Winky McGee would set quick time this week in digital time trials. McGee would start along side Kenny Peoples on the front row. As the feature would be underway it would look to be Winky McGee with the car to beat as he would take the lead early but would have a tire go down just a few laps into the event. This would leave Kenny Peoples and Keith Kolder to do battle for the lead. They would swap back and fourth during lap traffic to find Keith Holder on top as the checkers would fly. During post-race inspection Holder would show to have much softer tires then the rules allow and would be disqualified. Kenny Peoples of Rural Retreat, Virginia would pass inspection and would be declared the feature winner as he would roll into the Neighbors Stores/100.9 WIFM Victory Lane. Brandon Umberger would have yet another inmpressive run as he would finish second for the second week in a row and picking up the current points lead. Kent Peckham would finish third with Winky McGee coming all the way back through the field to finish fourth. Last weeks feature winner Noel Tucker would round out the top five. In the Southeastern Cars & Parts Limited Sportsman division, Jeff Parsons out of Union Grove, North Carolina would pick up his first win of the season while also picking up the points lead from Joel Bray. Jimmy Watson would have a good run to finish in second. Richard Clew would drop back to third after starting second. Last weeks feature winner Joel Bray would run fourth with Everette Dunlap making his first appearance in 2009 in fifth. In the Coffee House/Waffle Shop Four Cylinder event, Dale Barneycastle would return to Friendship for the first time in 2009 to show that he would have the car to beat while leading from start to finish to take down the victory. Last weeks feature winner wouldn't have anything for him as Evan Benton would finish second. Steve Minton finished third while Kevin Atwell would take fourth. In the JC Racing & Fabrication Renegade V-8 division, Derek Mastin would show up this week and have the car in tune as he would take down his first win of the season while also picking up the points lead from Jeff Parsons. Jason Donahue would have a nice run to finish second with Jeff Parsons falling to third this week. Keith Clonch would finish fourth with Tony Parsons rounding out the top five. In the Unsponsored U-Car feature, thirteen year old Brett Myers would be speechless after picking up his first ever feature win. This would also put him on top of the leader board in the points. Stephanie Clew would bring her car home a close second with John Keyes in third. Chase Maurer would make his debut in fouth with father Sean Myers finish fifth and celebrating the big win with Brett. Congratulations to this weeks feature winners and thanks to all the dirt racing fans, drivers, and crewmen for your support as we head into the third event of the 2009 racing season on April 18th.
