(05.02.2009) Elkin, North Carolina - Friendship Motor Speedway, an American Speed Association sanctioned track, welcomed back everyone
for our fifth event of the 2009 racing season.
The weather would be a little overcast with a slight chance of rain but everything would stay just right for a impressive night for racing action in every single race.
This week featured the Innaugural National Dirt Racing Association Touring Pro Late Model event along with three of our regular divisions which are known as the
JC Racing & Fabrication Renegade V-8, Coffee House Waffle Shop Four Cylinders, and the Hill Top Trading Post Donald's Automotive U-Car division.
In the GM Direct Automotive NDRA Pro Late Model event, Brandon Umberger of Rural Retreat, Virginia would pick up the pole for the innaugural NDRA Touring event in times trials with Kent Peckham along on the outside front row. Umberger would get out to as early lead in the feature event while Kent Peckham would try to hold on to second over a hard charging Hunter Peacock from Gray, Georgia. Peacock would make an impressive debut at the speedway as he would get by Peckham for second after starting fifth. Peacock would then make a run for the race lead as Umberger and Peacock would battle side by side for several laps. As the forty lap feature would wind down it would still be a strong Brandon Umberger holding it down as he would bag the victory in his Coldwell Banker GRT Chevrolet. Hunter Peacock would put on a show for the fans as he would finish a impressive second. Kent Peckham would be able to hold on for third. Winky McGee and Kenny Peoples, Jr. would finish fourth and fifth. In the Coffee House Waffle Shop Four Cylinder divison, Evan Benton would have his machine hooked up just right as he would bring it home for his second win of the 2009 season. Junior Welborn would finish in second with a hard charging Kevin Atwell knocking on his back door in third. Steve Minton and Anthony Garza would round out the top five. In the JC Racing & Fabrication Renegade V-8 division, Jeff Parsons would lead early but not for long as a strong Keith Clonch would come up to challenge for the lead. Keith Clonch would make the move and pick the lead all the way home to the checkers for his second win of the season and also picking up the points lead. Jeff Parsons would finish second with Jason Donahue in third. Mickie Anderson would finish fourth with Tony Parsons in fifth. In the Hill Top Trading Post Donald's Automotive U-Car feature, Britton Settle would score back to back wins as he picks up his second win in a row. Stephanie Clew would once again have a strong run in second. Points leader Sean Myers would finish third over Ariana Holsclaw and Austin Caudle rounding out fouth and fifth.
