(05.30.2009) Elkin, North Carolina - The ASA sanctioned Friendship Motor Speedway was under way for the eighth event of
the 2009 season. While track crews would give the track all the attention needed, the week long showers at the track
would reek havoc for this week of dirt track racing. All events would be completed after it was all said and done as
there were still much excitement to watch during the feature events.
This week featured all five of our regular divisions which are known as the GM Direct Automotive NDRA Pro Late Models, Southeastern Cars & Parts Limited Sportsman,
Coffee House Waffle Shop Four Cylinders, JC Racing & Fabrication Renegade V-8, and the Hill Top Trading Post Donald's Automotive U-Car division.
In the GM Direct Automotive NDRA Pro Late Model event, Winky McGee would set quick time in time trials as he would start from the front row along side Kent Peckham. Winky Would have it hooked up in the race as the laps would be cut short due to rough track conditions. This event would feature a twenty lap shootout while Kent Peckham would give it all he had to get pass a strong Winky McGee. It would just not to be for Peckham as Mount Airy's Winky McGee would claim back to back Pro Late Model feature wins while moving into second in the 2009 point standings. Kent Peckham of Statesville, North Carolina would bring it home a close second while moving to the top of the leader board in the point standings. The "Holly Springs Hitman" Wayne Quesenberry would make his debut at Friendship this year driving the car normally driven by 2008 champion Chris Cheek. Quesenberry would bring it home in third while Cheek would be serving a one week race suspension for a incident on the track in the last event. "The Gambler" Tony Hicks would finish in fourth while Ryan Atkins would round out the top five. In the Southeastern Cars & Parts Limited Sportsman race, Richard Clew of Harmony would have the car to beat through most of the event. With only two laps to go Jeff Parsons from Union Grove, North Carolina would come up to make a challenge on the restart to look low in turn one and make the pass heading into the final lap. Jeff Parsons would be able to hold them off for the win and to add to his current points lead. Joel Bray would make a late race charge to bring it home in second. "Flyan" Brian Nance would return this week to finish in third. Daniel Moss and Lee Bates would finish fourth and fifth. Richard Clew would end up having a disapointing finish while falling all the way to sixth. In the Coffee House Waffle Shop Four Cylinders, Robbie Brown would have a great battle early on with Billy Robbins and Justin Hudspeth. Robbie Brown would have what look to be overheating issues and be done for the night early into the run. This would set the stage for a battle between Hudspeth and the 2008 champion Robbins. Justin Hudspeth of Rhonda, North Carolina would set sail to the checkers to finally find a victory. Billy Robbins would give it a great effort but come up just shy as he would finish second. Tommy Zachary would have a great run in third. Evan Benton and Les Roten would round out the top five. In the JC Racing & Fabrication Renegade V-8 division, Jeff Parsons pulling double duty this year trying to win two championships would have a two for two night as he would have the car to beat. Jeff Parsons would find victory while also adding to his point lead in this division. Jason Donahue would have some trouble early in the run but would make a comeback to finish second. Tony Parsons would be third. Ron Rhodes would finish fourth with Miss Desi Olsen in fifth. In the Hill Top Trading Post Donald's Automotive U-Car feature, Josh Clonch of Roaring River, North Carolina would return to Friendship for his second time this year while making it a good one as he would claim victory. Points leader Stephanie Clew would have yeat another great run while still just coming up shy of a win. Ariana Holsclaw would have a very impressive night while finishing third. The Myers racing family of Brett Myers and Sean Myers would finish fourth and fifth respectfully.
