(06.06.2009) Elkin, North Carolina - Friendship Motor Speedway, a American Speed Association sanctioned track, was
back underway for the ninth event of the 2009 season. All events would show to be exciting as track crews would over come
a week of rain at the speedway as the track would hold together fairly good. Many were using the two groves
in the track as the night would prove to be very exciting with side by side racing all through the feature events.
This week featured all five of our regular divisions which are known as the GM Direct Automotive NDRA Pro Late Models, Southeastern Cars & Parts Limited Sportsman,
Coffee House Waffle Shop Four Cylinders, JC Racing & Fabrication Renegade V-8, and the Hill Top Trading Post Donald's Automotive U-Car division along with a special appearance by the Good Ol'Boys old timer hot rods.
In the GM Direct Automotive NDRA Pro Late Model event, 2008 champion Chris Cheek of Hamptonville, North Carolina would set quick time in time trials starting along side past feature winner Steven Adkins, Jr. Many incentives would be on the line this week. As the green flag flew it would be Chris Cheek out to an early lead before experiencing some mechanical issues. Steven Adkins, Jr. would pick up the lead for several laps before getting the challenge from one Dan Breuer who would start from the sixth position. A red flag would be displayed at halfway to allow crews a ten minute session to go to work on their machines. Dan Breuer would be the halfway leader while picking up a special trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina with a free 2 night and 3 day stay at the ADA Motel that is owned and operated by Four Cylinder driver Les Roten. A lucky fan would also pick up the same package as Dan Breuer would draw a ticket for the giveaway. As the race would resume it would be Breuer yet again the man to beat as Bobby Jones would power by a backsliding Steven Adkins, Jr. Dan Breuer of Troutman, Noth Carolina would go on to pick up the win along with even more extras. Breuer would pick up the Ladd & Sons Landscaping of Elkin Topless Bonus for $100.00 along with Rick's Pressure Washing $100.00 Bonus for starting outside the top five. And a $100.00 Bonus from the Official Website of Friendship Motor Speedway - FriendshipRacing.com for a total of $1100.00 for the win. Bobby Jones would have one of his best ever runs as he would scoop up the $100.00 Bonus from Basic Finance of Wilkesboro for the Hard Charger Award for coming from eleventh to finish second. Steven Adkins, Jr. would hold on to finish third over a great run from Barry Arnold in fourth. Willie Evernham would visit Friendship this week while rounding out the top five. In the Southeastern Cars & Parts Limited Sportsman race, this is a heck of a feature to watch each and every week as this week Richard Clew and Daniel Moss would put on a show. Richard Clew would lead early. Daniel Moss would have a strong car to challenge for the lead. Clew would give it all he had but would just not be able to hold off a strong run by Daniel Moss as he would get by Clew to cruise to the victory. Richard Clew would come up just a bit shy in second. Joel Bray would finish in third with Kenny Gwyn and Tony Lowe in fourth and fifth. In the Coffee House Waffle Shop Four Cylinders, Tommy Zachary would set sail in the feature event as he would take home the victory. Evan Benton would have yet another stong finish in second. Chris Hudspeth would come finish in third. Junior Welborn would take home fourth with fifth going to Kevin Atwell. In the JC Racing & Fabrication Renegade V-8 division, Jeff Parsons would add to his point lead once again as he would barely hold off a strong Jason Donahue for the victory. Jason Donahue would have a interesting night as he would have problems early in the run but rally back to finish just short of a win in second. Desi Olsen would have a very impressive run as she would finish third. Fabian Anderson would claim fourth with Tony Parsons fifth. In the Special FriendshipRacing.com Good Ol'Boys race, these old timer hot rods would come at a last minutes notice to put on one heck of a show as there would be a side by side battle for the lead and the win from start to finish. Travis Booth and Michael Tover would be the cars to beat. Kenneth McGee would come from the rear of the field up to challenge for a three way battle for the win in the closing laps. Travis Booth would be the man to hold them off as he would have a breath of fresh air with the checkers in sight to pick up the feature win. Michael Stover would give it all he had but come up just shy of the win as he would come home in second. Kenneth McGee would have a strong run in third. Steve Miller and Charlie Robertson, J.r would round out the top five. Ray Agee would finish sixth. In the Hill Top Trading Post Donald's Automotive U-Car feature, Travis Turner of Martinsville, Virginia would make his debut known as he would claim victory. Sean Myers would collect some much needed points as he would rally back to second after some problems early in the run. Last weeks feature winner Josh Clonch would have yet another strong run in third. Points leader Stephanie Clew would finish fourth while Brett Myers would rally up fifth place. Special thanks to Harmony Transmissions for providing a special enhanced purse for this feature event.
