(08.08.2009) Elkin, North Carolina - Friendship Motor Speedway was back at it this week for event number seventeen of the season under
the American Speed Associaiton sanction.
The track would hold smooth all night with some dust after a scorching afternoon of hot temperatures would do its toll on the dirt oval. Track crews would make it right by adding a touch of water before the last two feature events including the Pro Late Models.
This night would be a thriller as one fan said "I be dog that's the best racing I have seen in years".
This week featured all five divisions known as the GM Direct Automotive Pro Late Models, Southeastern Cars & Parts Limited Sportsman,
Coffee House Waffle Shop Four Cylinders, JC Racing & Fabrication Renegade V-8, and the Hill Top Trading Post Donald's Automotive U-Car division.
In the GM Direct Automotive Unsanctioned Pro Late Model event, "Kool" Kent Peckham of Statesville would have his mojo working yet again at the four-tenth mile bullring. This week Peckham would claim quick time in time trials as well as rolling into the Neighbors Stores/100.9 WIFM victory lane to pick up win number five of the year. Brian Carswell would have a impressive run while finishing second but having to be penalized with a disqualification after failing to stay on the track to have his tires checked after the race. Keith Holder who started sixth would rally up the second place finish. Chris Cheek would have a great run in third after starting sixteenth. Brian Nance would have one of his best finishes in this division with fourth. Steve Cook would have a disapointing night after starting second to round out the top five. In the Southeastern Cars & Parts Limited Sportsman race, Bryan Nance of Rhonda would score his fifth win in a row this week after a battle with Richard Clew who would finish second. Joel Bray would finish a respectful third after starting dead last on the grid. Daniel Moss would pick up the current points lead this week with his fourth place run. Jerry bray would finish in fifth. Former points leader Jeff Parsons would have mechanical woes and be done early in the event finihsing in tenth position. Bryan Nance will be under a one hundred dollar bounty starting next week. In the Coffee House Waffle Shop Four Cylinders, Billy Robbins of Hamptonville would pick up a hard fought win after a five car battle between him, Chris Hudspeth, Derek Mathis, Sandy Martin, and Steve Faw. Hudspeth would lead most of the event but would lose the lead late in the run after a hard charging Sandy Martin would come all the way from the rear of the field to take the lead. Billy Robbins would get by Derek Mathis to make a run on Martin late in the run as Robbins and Martin would battle side by side the last couple laps for the win. Sandy Martin would give it all he had coming to the checkers as he would spin around off turn four and Billy Robbins would pick up the win. Chris Hudspeth would come back to pick up second with Derek Mathis third. Steve Faw would have a impressive run going in fourth while Adam Piercy would finish fifth. Sanday Martin would finish the last car on the lead lap in tenth. In the JC Racing & Fabrication Renegade V-8 division, Roaring Rivers' Keith Clonch would grab win number four of the season after a hard fought battle with last weeks feature winner Derek Mastin would would bring it home in second this week. Points leader Jeff Parsons would finish third while Mickey Anderson would finish in fourth. Fifth would go to Joe Decubellis while making his Friendship debut. The "Bad Bow Tie" Keith Clonch would do several impressive burnouts after the win while putting a show for the fans. In the Hill Top Trading Post Donald's Automotive U-Car feature, Brett Myers of Statesville would hold on for yet another wild finish after a intense battle with Matthew Nance. They would bump back and fourth several times during the race as the last bump would send Nance spinning off turn four coming to the checkers and back to a tenth place finish. Travis Turner would pick up and finish in second. Points leader Stephanie Clew would finish third with Todd Faircloth in fourth. Ariana Holsclaw would round out the five positions. Austin Caudle would orginally finished in second would be disqualified after failing post race inspections.
