Elkin, NC - Friendship Motor Speedway showed for an excellent night of dirt track racing at its best
right in the heart of North Carolina. Many fans and drivers turned out for a night of thrills as the second
week in the 2008 racing season got under way with invocation by Joe Atkins and the national anthem by Shannon Stamper.
The work that Mr. Phil Hall and Mr. Dennis Wood has put into
the track really showed as the surface really held up smooth all night. Friendship Motor Speedway was hard at
it again showing that this was the place to be for exciting racing in all divisions. This week included all of our
regular divisions which are the GM Direct Automotive Crate Late Models, Super Streets, Four Cylinders, and the U-Cars.
In the GM Direct Automotive Crate Late Model feature event, Mitchell Coble would start the pole position as he and Tony Hicks would take the front row to the green flag. This would shape up to be a very exciting feature event as Coble and Hicks would do battle early over hard charging Chase McCormick. Coble seem to fall off about halfway through as McCormick would make a run to second and looking to gain on leader Hicks. After a few early cautions and attemps to make a run for the lead it was not to be for young gun McCormick as the gambler Tony Hicks out of Mt. Airy, North Crolina would take the checkers for his first win of the new season in his South Main Service Center/T&K Enterprises, Adrians Race Cars & Parts, Suntan Unlimited BlackJack Racing Cadillac CTS. Chase McCormick would finish and respective second with Chris Cheek moving up to take down the third position. In the Super Street event, this division got upside down early as Ryan Shumate would flip his machine after contact with the outside wall coming off turn four in the heat race. Ryan would walk away disappointed but thankfully not hurt. In the feature, John Stamper would start up front along side Jimmy Watson. Last weeks feature winner Daniel Moss would do battle with the front two early on as he and old buddy Stamper from last week would do battle with a new dance partner Jimmy Watson. These three cars stayed bumper to bumper most of the race putting on a thrilling show for the fans and crew members. In the end it was "Smiling" John Stamper taking down the victory holding off a ever hard charing Jimmy Watson in second and Daniel Moss falling to third this week. In the Four Cylinder feature event, Billy Robbins is allways a threat when he and Matthew Warden roll into the dirt track at Friendship Motor Speedway. Robbins would lead early over Tom Zachary. Last weeks feature winner Billy Robbins also wanted a peice of the action as he would come to the front with Matthew Warden in tow early on. This race would shape up to be a beath taker as Matthew Warden would do battle with Brown the whole race letting Billy Robbins home free to take down the feature win. Matthew Warden would get by Robbie Brown to take second and Robbie Brown would fall to finish a close third. In the U-Car feature event, these guys and girls may not be the main class but they sure put on a good race as Jennifer Mendenhall would lead early as she would look to have the car to beat. Tyler Sidden ran second but kept a gettin it as he would make a move halfway through the race to overtake Mendenhall. Jennifer would then do battle with a hard charging C.J. Lyons for second but would lose the battle to Lyons. Tyler Sidden would take the checkers for his first win of the season with a hard charging C.J. Lyons in second. Jennifer Mendenhall would fall to fouth after leading early with last weeks winner Matt Barker coming up to finish third. Congrats to this weeks feature winners and thanks to all the dirt racing fans, drivers, and crewmen for your support as we continue to get the 2008 race season under way. Next week May 17, 2008 we will be off but if you need your weekly dirt racing fix be sure to check out Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, Virginia for their twin Carolina Clash Super Late Model races both paying $2500.00 to win, thats right two races for the price of one.
